CompuCom has helped the energy leader achieve advantages across the enterprise including improved, more predictable IT costs and service levels.
Committed to creating energy for a better world while protecting natural resources, this leading Canadian energy company manages expansive operations—from conventional and offshore oil and gas production to oil-sands development and petroleum refining. While working to responsibly develop petroleum resources, the Forbes Global 2,000 enterprise continues to expand its growing renewable-energy portfolio.
Oil and gas production is a high-risk business, calling for large upfront capital investments with no guarantee of returns. And as the price of oil and gas fluctuates, revenues can expand and contract unexpectedly. In this challenging industry landscape, the Canadian energy leader sought to outsource much of its IT operations for predictable, managed costs and performance levels. It needed dependable IT staffing and management that would remain constant, even in a volatile business environment.
CompuCom started by managing an enterprise-wide rollout of the Windows desktop operating system. We then became the company’s IT service provider of choice by offering:
- Tailored services that meet the company’s unique needs
- A true consumption-based IT model in which the company pays only for the IT services it uses
CompuCom provides a comprehensive suite of services covering the client’s entire IT infrastructure. That includes data center management, IT equipment procurement and support for 18,000 desktops and other devices that empower 14,000 employees.
It also involves strategic projects such as implementing a meeting-room management service to transform conferencing capabilities across 850 meeting rooms. Employees can now easily and effectively host in-person and virtual team meetings. If an issue arises in real time, employees simply call the service desk to have a CompuCom technician dispatched to the room within five minutes.
In addition, CompuCom now procures all IT equipment for the company. Rather than having to work with multiple vendors, the organization allows CompuCom to handle the details of purchasing devices from Cisco, HP, Oracle, Panasonic and more. That includes complete life-cycle management, just-in-time product replacement, and detailed reporting on issues like benchmarking, reserve stock, backlogs, warranties and quality.
CompuCom has helped the energy leader achieve advantages across the enterprise. Chief among them are improved, more predictable IT costs and service levels. Outsourced, consumption-based IT also drives better asset usage, lower capital expenditures, greater employee productivity and closer alignment with business strategy.
What’s more, meeting-room management has simultaneously lowered travel spending while improving productivity. And with IT procurement services, the company benefits from optimal pricing, a clearer picture of assets across the enterprise, and more effective deployment of IT to support business objectives.
